The Things I did to Lose Weight

Hello there,

I wrote this post since a long time ago. Only now I have the chance to edit and publish it.

The heaviest I weigh was 65kg. Now That was not really heavy but for an average size body structure like mine, that was big! I am only 159cm. I was not a picture of health.

I was not happy about my weight. Like most girls, I try many diet, teas, and supplements for weight loss. During the holiday I would exercise 5 to 6 times a week. Eat so little, I didn't feel satisfied.

Little did I know, there are more seriously issues that was coming my way at that time. I got seriously sick.

Tho my first intention in changing my lifestyles is to get rid of my illness, I lose weight along the way. When you are healthy, other issues disappear too. In my case it was layer of fats.

I learned that losing weight sustainable is not about burning and counting calories. Trust me I did it. Although some have succeed in doing it, it was not for me. I also do not want to feel so restricted in counting calories in the food I eat. Calories are not created equal! Creating the proper hormonal environment in the body that's conducive to weight loss is the key. Stress and emotional issues can also cause in balance hormonal environment.  So we need to take holistic approach that looks at our whole area of life, as much as what and when we eat.

The keys to my transformation and weight loss are:

1. I stopped dieting and started nourishing my body.
Why eat less, when you can nourish more? I count nutrition not calories. I learned from the documentaries that I have watched that my body was chronically starving for nutrients! That is why although I have finish a large meal and still feel hungry afterwards. It is the brain giving the body the signal to eat more because it was starving of nutrients. What we did wrong is by eating the wrong food! I make sure I gave myself as much high quality nutrients as possible. I would eat less of junk foods but I would eat them whenever I wanted. Eventually I lost my taste for all junk food as my body learned to prefer high-quality, nutrient-dense foods. It is not that I can't eat junk food, I choose not to. See the difference?

2. I focus on my digestion.
I discovered that one of the reasons why I was so badly starving for nutrients is that my digestive processes were compromised, so I was unable to effectively extract the nutrients from the foods I was eating. Digestion problems can also cause inflammation and the inflammatory hormones put our bodies into fat storage mode. I started eating taking probiotic in order to normalize my digestion. I make sure I poop minimum once per day. I make sure I drink enough water and my urine is as clear as the water I drank. That is how you know you are well hydrated.

3. Reduce stress.
Stress causes raised the levels of cortisol and inflammatory hormones. These hormones lead to constant cravings and put your body into chronic fat storage mode. Many people don’t realize how important it is to learn how to reduce stress. I began finding ways to reduce stress in my life. For example being more positive, pray and look at the bigger picture. Always be grateful with I have, no matter how stressful the situation is, which I found to be extremely effective for reducing stress.
4. I created a much more sustainable life.
I stop my skincare regime. Well not entirely. But I do not let the brand of the skincare define the quality. Now, I don't even own a toner or lotion! Haha. My skincare become more natural. I come to the conclusion that I do not need certain things to define who I am. I do not need high end skincare or the latest trend. My life felt much more sustainable and I felt calmer. The stress hormones were no longer coursing through my system, wreaking havoc and turning my body into a fat storage machine.
5. I detoxified my body.
At the beginning of my journey, I started doing a lot of research about toxins and how the body processes and deals with toxic chemicals because I was not getting better even after I went to see the specialist. I found out that the body uses fat cells to store excess toxins. I realized that the excess pounds that my body was holding onto was because it was a storehouse for accumulated toxins. I started living what I call a “detoxifying lifestyle”. I started flushing my body with lots of alkaline liquids, like water with lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, green juices, eating lots of greens and fruits. That did the trick, the rate of my weight loss continued to accelerate to the very end. Now, some people may not believe in detoxing or cleansing the body or build up toxins. There are articles that said so, for example this one. Most probably because in this day and age, people had abuse the word. Just like the word "diet". I do not want to argue with whatever its said in those articles. However, I did my own research and I got the result I wanted.

I am just sharing what I did. We are all build differently. What I did might not work for you. In my journey, there are countless people that don't believe in what I do or say. Some say juicing is dangerous, detox don't work, you must eat this and that for a balance diet, you are not getting this or that enough.

Thank God I did't pay much attention to them! However there are a lot of scam out there. So you have to do your own research. Don't read one article and make your conclusion from there. Maybe it is a scam, well maybe it might not be that bad. You might get a placebo effect from it. Hahaha..My believes might change in the future but that is for the future. No point stressing about it now. Go back to point number 3

Have a awesome day ahead!

    1. hahaha Thank you! I was too nervous that day. Did't really prepared mentally because I thought that after the seminar I don't have to think about it ever again! Sure! You can start thinking about it now actually. Better to have an idea on what you want to do. :)

  2. Wow what a transformation!!! I've been trying the diet thingy as well. From tea to cutting food to shake. But holy me, i did not shed any fats but i keep on adding fats.

Then, i guessed I've given up till I discovered i lost like 2.5kgs within two weeks or so. Quite surprise actually, then I realized that, if i stop stressing myself and just focus on eating healthy and drinks plenty of water things will be better than before.

  3. Thanks so much for sharing this Eudora. Finally, I have found a post that doesn't say "Eat less, exercise more". Sometimes it is not that simple. Hormones play a role, toxins in the body can be a factor. I was diagnosed with Hypo-thyroid condition as a teen and now am at a 'Euthyroid" stage where it is dormant. I am also diagnosed with PCOS which is no walk in the park either. Add emotional eating into the mix and you got a disaster party.
I hid behind my illness for years but I decided to roll with the punches and just do it. Currently I am doing Zumba and walking for exercise and adding more fruits and veges into my diet. Making a change one step at a time so to speak. :)
